MODERN FAMILY: MANNY GET YOUR GUN (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series, a "mockumentary" about the eccentric individuals comprising three inter-related families in Los Angeles. In this episode, everyone rushes to attend Manny's birthday dinner, and Phil, excited about the Dunphys' upcoming return to "family camp," debates with Claire about the best route to the restaurant and challenges her to a race. Gloria searches for her lost keys yet again as Jay gifts Manny with a BB gun, noting that he was "never much of a kid" and can handle the teens-and-up present. Luke, misunderstanding Claire's comment about "splitting up" with Phil, notes that he would rather stay with his father, and Claire is annoyed to realize that he considers Phil to be "the fun parent." Phil hurries to fix a flat tire, and Haley and Alex privately admit that they are dreading family camp. Mitchell grows impatient with Cam's dawdling at the Grove, particularly when he attempts to reunite two elderly lovebirds. Manny, having taken Jay's words to heart, quickly attempts to make up for his squandered youth with childish antics, and when Jay, who has been criticizing her lack of organization, finds Gloria's keys in his own pocket, he hides them in her purse to save face.
Claire protests that children cannot have two "fun parents" and require a sensible one, and Phil takes the girls' admission about camp very hard indeed. Manny, still upset about "missing out" on being a kid, declares that there is no point in celebrating his birthday, but Gloria takes control – with the help of the BB gun – and orders both men into the car. At the mall, Mitchell suddenly joins in with a flash mob, explaining that he intended the fun surprise as a "love letter" to the whimsical Cam, though it backfires when Cam reacts with outrage to Mitch "cheating on him with choreography." Claire decides to prove that she is just as fun as Phil is by speeding to the restaurant, while elsewhere Gloria is incensed to discover Jay's trick with the keys, culminating in a near-crash involving all four cars. Manny is relieved to see his older relatives acting "like kids" and decides that he still has time to enjoy his youth, and the family settles down for an enjoyable evening. Later, Gloria continues to rule the house with her exceptional shooting talents. Includes commercials and promos.
