PUSHING DAISIES: KERPLUNK {SERIES FINALE} (TV)
Summary
The final episode in this fantasy-based dramedy series about a pie-maker whose touch can revive the dead. In a flashback, young Lily learns that her little sister Vivian has a flair for mimicry, and they later become the Darling Mermaid Darlings, a famed synchronized swimming act. However, after secretly giving birth to her sister's fiancé's baby and later raising Chuck as her niece, Lily lost her taste for performing. In the present, the sisters sadly celebrate Chuck's half-birthday and decide to attend the Aquacade, the yearly nautical-themed performance show. Ned, Chuck, Olive and Emerson opt to see the show as well, though they hide from Lily and Vivian, who go unnoticed as former stars. The aunts then have an uncomfortable encounter with their former rivals, the AquaDolls, sisters Coral and Blanche Ramora, accompanied by Blanche's handsome and dim-witted husband, Shane. During the patriotically-themed show, everyone is shocked when Bubba, the Great White from another act, suddenly appears and eats Blanche. The next day, emcee Jimmy Neptune appeals to Lily and Vivian to make a comeback and be the new opening act, and Lily, surprisingly, agrees. Elsewhere, Bubba's owner Galveston Gus begs Emerson to prove that someone deliberately opened the shark's cage. When they visit Blanche at the morgue, they realized that her hair gel was mixed with shark-baiting lard, though Chuck is angry when Blanche accuses her aunts.
The detectives go undercover as Lily and Vivian's team at the Aquacade, and Shane and Coral are both angry at the Darlings' revival. Olive meets performer Sid Tango and discovers that he is bitter about always being second to the AquaDolls and had access to their dressing room. Upon discovering the shark's gate remote on his Speedo, Emerson and Olive conclude that he is guilty, but while in prison, Sid reveals that Coral was jealous of her sister and is likely the real culprit. Neptune complains to Ned that they need a new "daredevil" act, adding that he wants to take the Darlings on a European tour, and the sisters agree. Coral then attempts a risky act and confesses to an affair with Shane, not unlike Lily's affair with Charles Charles, but swears innocence in the murder, and a sympathetic Vivian invites her to perform with the Darlings. The detectives then realize that Shane is the real killer, though he manages to escape. Ned updates Chuck and invites her to her aunts' opening night, but she is crushed at the prospect of being separated from them by the tour. Backstage, Olive discovers Coral's plans to be a "singular sensation" during the show, and Lily upbraids her for disregarding Vivian, but Coral then reveals that she knows about Lily's secret affair and pregnancy. Emerson discovers Ned and Chuck attempting to sabotage the aunts' performance to prevent the tour, and he scolds them both.
During the show, Shane reappears and loudly confesses to killing Blanche for Coral's sake, then attempting to electrocute Lily and Vivian with a microphone, but Ned saves the day. Ned then tells Chuck that keeping the secret of his powers by hiding her has made her too unhappy, and he wants to be a good boyfriend by putting her first. Elsewhere, Coral tells Vivian everything about Lily's affair with Charles, and a shocked Vivian orders her sister to leave, despite Lily's tearful explanation of how she attempted to make things right and put Vivian's happiness first by giving up Chuck. The sisters are then stunned to find Chuck alive on their doorstep with Ned, as the two have finally decided to admit the truth. Emerson is reunited with Penny, and Olive opens a mac-and-cheese restaurant with Randy, and everyone's lives continue happily. Includes commercials and promos.
