JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE! {MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY, JUNE SQUIBB, SWITCHFOOT} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of live late-night talk shows hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. This episode's guests include Academy Award-nominated actors Matthew McConaughey and June Squibb and musical guest Switchfoot.

In his opening monologue, Kimmel touches on the following topics, among others: the ongoing PowerBall lottery competition; the upcoming conclusion of the Winter Olympic Games, including some surprising behind-the-scenes tension involving an ice-dancing coach; Pope Francis' attempts to give a speech in extremely windy weather; a "Meet the Nominees" greeting from Squibb, who attempts to guilt the Oscar voters into finally giving her the prize at age 84; Kimmel's determination to acquire a "loom suit" handmade by children; and the surprising news that younger Kardashian sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner are "writing" a science-fiction novel together. Expert celebrity stalker Yehya Mohamed also stops by to offer his unique descriptions of the Oscar-nominated films "Dallas Buyers Club" (2013) and "The Wolf of Wall Street" (2013).

The first guest, McConaughey, joins Kimmel and comments on his role on "True Detective" alongside Woody Harrelson; his uncertainty about their first encounter, which apparently preceded their work together on "EDtv" (1999); their highly competitive games of Ping-Pong and other sports; Harrelson's terrible driving and "anti-establishment" regard for road signs; his air-stream trailer vacations with his wife and three children; why he and Harrelson will not appear in future "Detective" season beyond their eight-episode arc; how his extreme weight loss for his role as AIDS patient Ron Woodroof in "Dallas" helped him get into his "literally and figuratively hungry" character; and how he plans to "top" his memorable Golden Globes speech if he does, in fact, win the Best Actor prize at the Academy Awards.

Next, Squibb takes the stage and discusses being recognized for her role in "Nebraska" (2013); her early career in stage comedy and cabaret; memories of burlesque comedian "Sliding Billy Watson"; disagreeing with "About Schmidt" (2002) co-star and well-known Los Angeles Lakers fan Jack Nicholson about basketball; and her disappointment at not having been nominated alongside Nicholson and Kathy Bates for "Schmidt."

Switchfoot then performs "When We Come Alive" from their recent album "Fading West." Includes commercials and promos.
