HERE'S LUCY: LUCY AND THE ANDREWS SISTERS (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series starring Lucille Ball as Lucy Carter, a single mother working for her brother-in-law Harry at his employment agency.

Craig helps Kim decorate her room with posters of old movie stars, and Lucy reminisces about the films and music she enjoyed as a teenager. The next day, Lucy is in the office when Patty Andrews of the Andrews Sisters enters, and Lucy is quite excited to meet her. She explains that a fan club is throwing her a testimonial dinner and she is looking for extras to portray her sisters for a spot there; she notes that they will all be lip-synching along to old Andrews Sisters records. Lucy asks if she and Kim could fill the roles, and Patty agrees; she also convinces Patty to allow Craig to come along as a stand-in for Bing Crosby. Lucy, Kim, and Craig rehearse with Patty at her house that night, and she shows them some of her pictures and assorted memorabilia. Lucy asks to take Patty’s records home so she can practice.

The testimonial dinner begins and Harry attends with an important client, Elroy Sherwood, who reveals that he was the first president of the Andrews Sisters fan club and has retained a lifelong affinity for them. Harry tells him that Lucy called in sick to work, unaware that she is appearing with Patty. Lucy, Kim, and Craig meet with Patty, and Lucy admits that she is nervous about performing. When Elroy introduces Patty to Harry, he spots Lucy, startling her and causing her to trip. In doing so, she breaks Patty’s records, preventing them from doing their show. Harry attempts to help her when Elroy makes it clear that their business partnership would be endangered if he does not. Craig suggests performing the show live instead, and Patty agrees. They put on a medley of Andrews Sisters songs, including “Bei Mir Bistu Shein,” “South America, Take Me Away,” “Don’t Fence Me In,” “Pistol Packin’ Mama,” “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree,” “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” “Pennsylvania Polka,” “(I’ll Be With You) In Apple Blossom Time,” and the “Beer Barrel Polka.” Commercials deleted.
