DAVE'S WORLD: LOVES ME LIKE A ROCK (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series based on the life and times of Miami Herald columnist and family man Dave Barry.

In this episode, as Valentine's Day approaches, Mia excitedly describes her romantic plans with Eric, though Beth admits that Dave is not a fan of the "commercial" holiday. Eric tries out Dave's old roller-blades as Kenny offers some questionable advice to a lovesick Tommy. Shel arrives to show off a fancy bracelet that he has purchased for his girlfriend, Celia. Dave explains how, back in college, he slyly convinced Beth to reject Valentine's Day. Though he swears that Beth is "not a jewelry person," he soon reconsiders and accompanies Shel to meet his "diamond guy," the shady Leon, who sells Dave a diamond ring.

Eric demonstrates his love for Mia in an unconventional fashion. When Dave has the diamond appraised, he finds out that it is not only real but worth far more than he paid, leading him to assume that it is "hot." Beth is shocked and elated when she finds the unusually generous gift, and Willie brings home an impressive stash of Valentines from school. When asked, Leon casually confirms that the diamond ring was indeed stolen. When a guilt-ridden Dave attempts to return it, he finds that it is missing, taken by an overeager Beth. At home, Beth prepares to show Dave her considerable gratitude, but he sadly admits his error. Beth assures him that she is touched by the lengths to which he went to get her a meaningful present, but eventually decides to turn the ring in to the police. However, she makes plans to take it back as soon as she is legally allowed to do so. Commercials deleted.
