HELLO LADIES: PILOT {SERIES PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
The first in this comedy series about a painfully awkward Englishman and his attempts to find love in Los Angeles. In this episode, Stuart Pritchard and his best friend Wade, who has recently separated from his wife, attempt to flirt with some women at a bar, though it immediately goes awry thanks to Wade's inappropriate comments. Back at home, Stuart finds that his roommate Jessica, an actress/screenwriter, has spent the night with the not-quite-interested Glenn. The next day, Stuart spends time with a mopey Wade and his young daughter Cassidy, and he offers to take his friend out over the weekend to distract him on his wedding anniversary. Later, Stuart's banter with his somewhat lazy co-worker Rory is interrupted by the arrival of Courtney, Jessica's attractive actress friend, and Stuart horns in on their rehearsal as he attempts to pick Courtney up. She invites him to tag along on a nightclub outing that weekend, prompting Stuart to immediately cancel on Wade and beg Glenn to get him into the exclusive party, though an annoyed Jessica calls him out on it and he is forced to hastily combine the two plans.
On Friday, Stuart is irked to find that Wade has also invited his other friend Kives, a crude, wheelchair-using lothario whom he despises. The trio manages to embarrass themselves before even entering the nightclub, and matters grow worse indoors when Stuart tries to chat up Courtney and her friends and inadvertently "offers" to buy drinks for everyone in sight. Wade bores the other guests with his laments about his ex, though Kives has more luck, and Stuart causes a scene when he attempts to use one of Kives' "flirtatious" lines on Courtney. Later, Kives goes home with one of Courtney's friends, though Stuart heads home alone, and he finds that Jessica has again summoned Glenn and then changed her mind on the grounds of "self-respect." Bewildered, he settles in for another solo evening.
