SCANDAL: SOMETHING BORROWED (TV)

Summary

One in this drama/political thriller about the Pope & Associates crisis management firm in Washington D.C. In this episode, Quinn's friends fear the worst as they desperately search for news of her, and Olivia, attempting to focus on Mellie's game-changing peace treaty, orders Jake to pull out all the stops to find her. Fitz firmly rejects Marcus' suggestion to team up with Mellie to achieve their political goals, and Charlie struggles through the harrowing task of viewing pregnant Jane Does at city morgues, terrified that one of them will be Quinn. Cyrus informs Abby that Fenton won't press charges against Charlie for his violent interrogation, though he then confronts Jake for apparently orchestrating the false evidence tying the plane bomber to Fenton. As Olivia panics that she and Jake are responsible for their friend's fate, Rowan contacts her and smugly announces that he has Quinn and will kill her if Olivia doesn't give him his freedom — and his dinosaur bones. Olivia, however, refuses to accept the threat and orders him to "wait to be told what to do," and then tells Jake that they must simply wait him out.

Marcus defies Fitz and reaches out to Mellie, urging her not to reject important social program out of mere spite toward her ex. Rosen and Abby, unaware of Rowan's declaration, continue searching through the city's dead, and Jake angers Olivia by meeting with Rowan directly and warning him not to underestimate her resolve. With her options dwindling, Olivia visits her mother Maya, on permanent house arrest in a glamorous apartment, and unhappily explains what Rowan has done — and Maya coldly advises her to let Quinn die in order to prevent Rowan from obtaining unchecked power. Elsewhere, Lucy's secretary murders Curtis Pryce and stages an accident, and Jake pointedly suggests to Cyrus that "professional snitches" often meet deadly ends. Rosen admits his fear that Abby too will face some terrifying fate, like all the other QPA staffers, and Mellie changes her mind and agrees to work with her ex on some criminal justice reform ideas.

Jake pushes Olivia to make her impossible decision, arguing that she must give in to Rowan's demands or kill him herself if she wants to save Quinn's life, while Mellie, unaware of the whole affair, ironically praises Olivia as a "champion of peace" for helping to bring about the treaty. Rowan finally summons his daughter and demands her answer, but when he can't bring himself to shoot her dead, she calls in a kill strike and gives him 20 minutes to live, declaring that, far from having emotional weaknesses that he can exploit, she is "just as he made her," ruthless and determined to serve the Republic at all costs. With both of them sure that the other is bluffing, Rowan leaves the room and a horrified Olivia hears gunshots, but she composes herself as he returns and coldly offers to show her the body. Includes commercials and promos.
