Summary
The second of two assets on ACCNUM 103627. One in this comedy series, based on the short film "The Ten Rules: A Lesbian Survival Guide," about the lives and loves of a group of lesbian pals in Seattle.
In this episode, Jennifer is dejected over her stalled career as she works on a documentary about birdwatchers; friends urge her to pursue her real interests and make her "sex movie" about women in potentially exploitative careers. Crutch is frustrated when her mother finally cuts her off financially, and her "Seattle moms" Chris and Kris agree to help her out as they prepare to host a pet-adoption fair. At a bookstore, Jennifer encounters the classic "flirting or simply friendly" conundrum when an attractive woman chats with her. Sam, glad to see her friend back in the dating world, vows to move ahead with her own house-flipping career if Jennifer works up the nerve to ask the woman out.
Crutch unwisely maxes out her credit card to buy one of the Indigo Girls' old guitars, sure that it will help in her budding music career. Sam finds a perfect house to buy and rent out at a profit, and is startled when an assertive woman swoops in and takes it from her. However, the pair soon ends up in bed together. Jennifer's first date with the bookstore woman, Kate, hits a snag when Kate mentions that she has a child; elsewhere, Crutch performs a defiant "protest song" at the adoption fair as Chris grows exasperated with Kris' extremely strict vetting process for potential "pet parents." Back at home, however, they realize that they may be ready to become "people parents." Meanwhile, Jennifer admits to Kate that she is not ready for a family, bringing their would-be relationship to a swift end. Commercials deleted.
