TAXI: SHUT IT DOWN {PART 1 OF 2} (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about the employees of a New York City cab company.

In the first part of this two-part episode, a dangerous brakes malfunction in Tony's cab prompts the drivers to complain about their rundown cars, though Louie, has no interest in shelling out for repairs or replacements. Tony is elected shop steward, though he is then quickly replaced with Elaine when he proves far too easy to sweet-talk. Elaine soon decides that the drivers have to go on strike to make themselves heard.

Unfazed, Louie simply hires unqualified youths and street bums to drive the cabs; while the others brave the chilly New York weather on the picket line, Louie boasts that he's doing some "plastic surgery on the books" to cover up for his many errors and discarded responsibilities. Alex warns him that he faces "eternal damnation" if he lies under oath during the upcoming hearing, however, and might cause someone to be seriously injured by one of the cabs. Louie finally agrees to "talk turkey" with Elaine. She is delighted when he gives in to her various demands for the garage — but he then blackmails her into agreeing to a date with him in exchange for his promises. Contains commercials and promos.

Both episodes can be found on this asset; see ACCNUM 140894 for synopsis and credits of part two.
