LAWMAN: SECOND SON (TV)
Summary
One in this western television series about Marshal Dan Troop and his deputy Jack McKay, fighting criminals in the town of Laramie, Wyoming. A young man named Al May robs a paymaster in order to support his family. He feels bitterness towards his younger half-brother Charlie, since his mother ran off with another man and ruined their father. To prevent Al from being caught, Charlie rides off with the stolen money and is captured. At trial, Charlie pleads guilty to the theft. Lily speaks up in court, unable to believe that the mild-mannered Charlie would be capable of committing such a crime. The judge puts off sentencing for a day and Lily asks Troop to help prove Charlie's innocence, but he says there is nothing he can do. Lily suspects that Charlie is lying to protect Al, but Troop warns her against saying such things. Al and Mr. May visit Charlie in jail. Charlie hopes that what he's done will make up for his mother leaving. Troop begins to believe Lily's suspicions. Lily tries to get Charlie to change his plea, but without success. The next day, Mr. May visit Charlie again and notes that the money his mother stole was not as valuable as his "stolen pride." Charlie says he has always felt guilty about what his mother did and that all he ever wanted was to be recognized as a person by his father. Troop tells Lily that the paymaster has died from injuries he sustained in the robbery, and Lily realizes this means Charlie will be charged with murder. She confronts Al and Mr. May, but cannot fully voice her suspicions else it would be considered slander. Al convinces Mr. May to stand by him if Charlie changes his plea, although Mr. May is visibly upset at the situation. Charlie is brought back to court and pleads guilty to the murder charge. Driven by guilt, Mr. May stands up to tell the truth despite Al's protestations. Infuriated, Al holds up the courtroom with a gun but is quickly dispatched by Troop and McKay and taken to jail. Charlie finally gets the recognition he wants from his father. Troop reveals that he lied about the paymaster's death and that he is still alive. He did so in order to draw out Al and Mr. May. Lily is furious at this deception at first, but soon forgives Troop. Commercials deleted.
