HAPPY DAYS: THEY'RE CLOSING INSPIRATION POINT (TV)

Summary

One in this series of comedies about life in the 1950s. In this episode, Richie is furious that construction on the expressway off-ramp means that Inspiration Point will have to be closed. Soon, Fonz is leading a charge to save Inspiration Point. Fonz informs Richie that Howard is actually leading the East Boulevard Business Association in spearheading the construction plans. That night, Richie speaks about the plan to his father, who reveals that the bulldozers are due to start work immediately. Every other Cunningham is against Howard, starting “a war.” Within hours, Richie has launched a plea to the Planning Commission to stop the bulldozers. Meanwhile, a construction worker reports that “ding-a-ling” Fonzie has chained himself to a tree in the bulldozers’ path, temporarily stopping the construction. Soon, Chachi and others have surrounded the Cunningham house, chanting to stop Howard. Ultimately, Richie and Howard square off by presenting opposing pleas to the board. Richie enlists his friends to perform a dramatization on why Inspiration Point should be preserved. Al and Marion also offer thoughts on the importance of the legendary locale. Then, Fonz arrives to discuss why he chained himself to a boulder on the site, or what now remains of it. Next, Richie calls Howard to the stand and paints him into a corner with his line of questioning. Ultimately, Howard is forced to admit the significance of Inspiration Point in his own life, followed by similar comments from Planning Commission members. They vote to save Inspiration Point and Howard is honored as a hero during a subsequent celebration at Arnold’s. Includes commercials.
