DOOGIE HOWSER, M.D.: ATTACK OF THE GREEN-EYED MONSTER (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about teenage genius Doogie Howser, M.D., the youngest doctor in the country, who attempts to live his life as a normal adolescent.
In this episode, Doogie and Vinnie take Wanda and Janine on a double date to see "To Have and Have Not," and both boys are awed by Humphrey Bogart's effortless cool with "the dames." Doogie then spots Crista, an attractive former patient, who cheerfully invites him to one of her sorority parties. At home, Doogie complains to Katherine that Wanda was bizarrely jealous of the totally innocent encounter; he accidentally sparks an argument between his parents when David overhears Katherine telling their son that casual flirtation, like that which she received from one of his colleagues at a recent event, can be "flattering." Wanda, recalling a far more dramatic turn of events with Crista, refuses to talk to Doogie, and Doogie's co-worker Dr. Freeman offers some wise advice about jealousy.
Doogie tries to urge his parents to speak honestly about their disagreement; when this fails, he imagines himself and Vinnie as Bogie-esque private eyes who attempt to help David with his marital troubles, only to be shot by a vengeful "Slim." Dr. Freeman then points out that jealousy is also a form of "love insurance." Doogie is soon embarrassed to walk in on his parents rekindling their romance, having rediscovered their affection for each other thanks to the "little spark" of envy. Doogie decides to win Wanda back with a grand gesture, and he musically declares his feelings for his "Wild Thing" outside of her house. Wanda admits that she was merely worried that his "grown-up life" would lead him to more mature women. Doogie assures his "little Wanda bear" that he desires no one else – then realizes that everyone is listening in on their conversation via speaker system. Later, Doogie updates his journal with his newfound views on jealousy. Includes commercials and promos.
