GET SMART: ONE OF OUR OLIVES IS MISSING (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about a bumbling secret agent.

99 meets with Max at a hotel to pass on an assignment: KAOS has a secret laboratory in the hotel researching a nerve gas formula derived from Soviet sources. KAOS has obtained this information via a tiny audio receiver disguised in an olive with a pimento. One of their agents posing as a waiter has stolen the olive, and Max must determine which waiter is the agent by means of a secret code phrase. Max locates the waiter, who passes on the olive. The waiter is assassinated and in shock Max accidentally drops the olive into a martini. Max narrowly avoids being assassinated himself and chases after the assassin. Meanwhile, a magazine writer interviews Ozark Annie, a country music star, in the same hotel. She inadvertently swallows the olive containing the listening device, and Max is instructed to follow her and keep surveillance.

Siegfried’s communications are heard being broadcast on the speaker from the transmitter inside Annie’s stomach. Annie realizes she has swallowed the transmitter and is distressed. Max finds Annie and warns her that her life is in danger, although she laughs in his face when he reveals he is a secret agent. He asks her to accompany him back to his apartment, and she agrees when she overhears Siegfried ordering his agents to cut the olive out of her stomach. A KAOS agent is waiting for him there, but Max manages to knock him out. Max demonstrates his various home defenses, accidentally disabling other KAOS agents in the process. The Chief gets in contact with Max and sends a doctor over to extract the olive from Annie. Siegfried arrives disguised as the doctor, but Max soon sees through his disguise. They struggle and Annie accidentally knocks Max unconscious with a vase. Max’s home defenses prevent Siegfried from killing Max, but Siegfried manages to get away.

Max tries to get Annie to CONTROL, but Siegfried kidnaps her before he can get her there. Max and 99 trace Annie’s whereabouts to the secret laboratory, and Max uses a ploy to get the hotel desk to give him Siegfried’s room number. Starker shows Siegfried the testing rooms for their incomplete nerve gas compounds; their current mixture affects only females, and can induce emotions such as fear or romance. Their Soviet contact attempts to transmit the final nerve gas formula via the olive transmitter, but Annie starts hiccupping, interrupting the message. Max bursts in before Siegfried can shoot her. Max tries to flee the KAOS agents with Annie, but she falls under the effects of the nerve gas, becoming alternately terrified of and attracted to Max. 99 enters to provide Max with an escape route, only to fall under the effects of the gas as well. Commercials deleted.
