WHAT'S MY LINE? {MYSTERY GUESTS: TONY BENNETT; BRIAN EPSTEIN} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of panel game shows in which celebrity panelists engage in witty banter as they try to guess the unusual occupations of the guests. In this episode, host John Daly presides over a panel which includes journalist Dorothy Kilgallen, singer/songwriter Paul Anka, actress Arlene Francis and publisher Bennett Cerf. Employing only yes-or-no questions, the panel first attempts to discover the "line" of "Mr. X," who is in fact Brian Epstein, theatrical manager of The Beatles. Anka recognizes Epstein and recuses himself from the round, but Cerf too is familiar with the guest and quickly guesses correctly. Daly briefly comments on Epstein's "discovery" of the Fab Four and previews his upcoming book, "A Cellarful of Noise." Next, the panelists question Heather Reynolds of New York, who is a professional dog walker, and Cerf and Francis again get the right answer within two questions.

After donning blindfolds, the panelists then attempt to discover the identity of the mystery guest: singer Tony Bennett. This time, they are unsuccessful in divining his identity, and Daly previews Bennett's upcoming appearance at the famous Copacabana club. Finally, the panelists question Grove Thomas, who plays the washboard in a nightclub band called "Your Father's Mustache," but time runs out before the panelists are able to guess the right answer.
