STAR TREK: VOYAGER: BASICS {PART 1 OF 2} {SECOND SEASON FINALE} (TV)

Summary

One in this series of programs about the outer space adventures of the USS Voyager and its commander, Captain Kathryn Janeway, in the twenty-fourth century. Suder, still confined to his quarters, makes progress with Tuvok in horticulture and wants to use his newfound talent to benefit the ship; he wishes to make a meaningful contribution to Voyager to make up for his crime. Tuvok takes his desire into consideration and trains Suder in meditative practices. Voyager picks up a communications signal from an automated subspace buoy displaying Seska with her and Chakotay's child. She pleads with Chakotay to save his son and the message is cut off by Cullah's angry intrusion. Janeway and Chakotay realize it is most likely a trap, but after an induced lucid dream in which Chakotay speaks to his father, he decides he must rescue his son in spite of the method of his conception. Voyager prepares for the inevitable confrontation with the Kazon Nistrim. Kim devises a plan to confuse the enemy sensors with false sensor readings, and the Doctor suggests projecting holographic ships as a further distraction. They find a damaged Kazon shuttle and beam aboard the sole weakened occupant: Tierna, one of Seska's aides. He claims that Cullah executed Seska and would have done the same to him had he not escaped. His ship was fired upon and was filled with poison gas when Voyager came upon it. He tells Chakotay that his son is being taken to a Kazon colony to be raised as a servant. Chakotay expresses doubt over Tierna's story, but it seems to be genuine. He gets Tierna to give Voyager the codes to penetrate the Kazon Nistrim defense grid, although Tierna warns them that the Kazon inhabiting that sector are loyal to no one and will attack without provocation. As Voyager travels through the sector, small Kazon vessels make hit-and-run attacks on Voyager, all of them targeting a seemingly unimportant area of the ship. In between the attacks, Janeway visits Suder, who outlines his plan to contribute to Voyager's aeroponics bay. Janeway says she'll think about it and Suder believes she still doesn't trust him. The Kazon attacks begin to take their toll and Janeway and Chakotay get suspicious. They order Voyager to reverse course and that Tierna be restricted to quarters. Soon after reversing course, a group of Kazon warships pursues them in a Cardassian attack formation. Janeway decides to intercept them. A battle ensues, as Kim activates his false sensor readings and Torres and the Doctor use the holo-ships to scatter the enemy forces. Voyager manages to fend off several of the warships before Tierna activates a device which turns his own body into a biological bomb. Tierna's detonation weakens Voyager and allows the Kazon to gain the upper hand. Paris sneaks out of Voyager on a shuttle in order to get help from nearby Talaxians. The Kazon spot his shuttle and fire upon it. Voyager loses contact with the shuttle; Paris's fate is uncertain. The Kazon finally disable Voyager's engines and start boarding the ship. Janeway attempts to evacuate and activate the ship's self-destruct sequence, but the earlier hit-and-run attacks destroyed the self-destruct system. The Kazon capture the bridge and Janeway orders her crew to stand down. Cullah and Seska enter; Cullah reveals he plans to raise Seska's child as his own and believes that Chakotay raped Seska to produce the child. The rest of the crew is rounded up, but Suder hides in the Jefferies tubes and the Doctor takes himself offline for several hours to avoid detection. Cullah believes Paris's shuttle was destroyed but Seska is not so sure. Cullah deposits the Voyager crew on an uninhabited world and flies off with Voyager. Meanwhile, Torres discovers that the planet is home to a race of primitive humanoids. To be continued. Commercials deleted.
