GHOST AND MRS. MUIR, THE: MR. PERFECT (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series based on the 1947 film of the same name about a young widowed mother and her relationship with her house's former resident, the ghost of a sea captain. In this episode, Carolyn receives a telegram and tells Gregg that it regards a "personal matter," and he covertly retrieves it from the fire and learns that her former paramour, Blair Thompson, will be arriving the following day on his yacht for a visit. Carolyn, Martha and the children meet Blair at the pier, and Gregg follows them and attempts to trip him, but Carolyn intervenes. They return home and Carolyn calls Gregg out for his nosiness, and Gregg makes it clear that he disapproves of Blair. Blair gives gifs to the children and then presents Carolyn with a locket containing a picture of the two of them from years ago. Gregg is further annoyed when Blair observes a model of Gregg's old ship and marvels at the "leaky old matchboxes" of the past, declaring that the current day's sailors are far more capable.

Blair attempts to have a serious talk with Carolyn about their potential future together, and Gregg doggedly intervenes, turning on the radio and squirting Blair with the sprinkler. They head off to Blair's yacht for some alone time, but Gregg causes the ship to sway mightily and Blair becomes seasick. Back at home, he "hallucinates" a ship going in and out of a bottle, and an annoyed Carolyn accuses Gregg of meddling out of jealousy, informing him that Blair is flawed but human and that their relationship is not his business. Gregg sadly imagines his own image next to hers in the locket, but then dims the lights and places the locket around Carolyn's neck when she is alone with Blair. When she confronts him again, he agrees that their marriage would benefit everyone and says that he is "facilitating their courtship," but Carolyn tells him to stay out of it entirely. She then accepts Blair's proposal and suggests that they marry right away, and Blair is thrilled until she points out that he is gaining a "ready-made" family and will have to give up the bachelor life for good. Blair urges Carolyn to take time to consider her answer and tells her he is sailing tomorrow anyway, and she and the children see him off on his yacht. Later, Carolyn tells Gregg that Blair only "wants what he can't have," and Gregg agrees that he has learned a lesson about nosing into her life. Commercials deleted.
