SPIN CITY: THE MAYOR WHO CAME TO DINNER {3-D EPISODE} (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about the Deputy Mayor of New York City and his co-workers at City Hall as they deal with problems both professional and personal.
The mayor has Mike, Carter, and his new boyfriend, fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi, over at his mansion for dinner. His wife arrives an hour late and the mayor insists that she apologize before they begin the meal. Instead she storms off, making the proceedings quite awkward. After that the mayor and his wife become quite violent with each other and the next day Mike has to figure out a way to sort the whole thing out. Meanwhile, Stuart is angered that the laundry room in his building is inadequate, mostly since it provides him a way to approach women while they are in their “skivvies.” James agrees to help him write an appropriate complaint about the issue. James accompanies Stuart as he gives an impassioned speech to his co-op about the laundry room situation, speaking in rather grandiose terms. Carter likes Isaac but feels as though his high-powered celebrity-filled lifestyle is too much for him to handle.
That night, Mike returns to his apartment alone but soon is unexpectedly joined by the mayor, who has been kicked out of the house by his wife. Isaac’s model cannot make it for a charity fashion show Nikki is overseeing and he proposes having her fill in for her, fulfilling a secret ambition of hers’. Mike feels bad for the mayor’s situation and offers to let him spend the night there. Stuart is elected president of his building after his rousing speech, much to James’s embarrassment. Mike finds that the mayor’s presence in his apartment is more problematic than he had anticipated. The mayor’s wife has not called and Mike offers to try to open up a line of communication between them, but the mayor is tired of “crawling back” to her and offering insincere apologies. Several days elapse and the mayor continues to reside with Mike, irritating him and making the press suspicious.
Stuart finds himself inundated with calls from the tenants under his supervision, annoying him to no end. Mike and the mayor arrive at the charity fashion show and find the mayor’s wife waiting for them there. Mike secretly invited her there and tells them to put their differences aside and appear together for the sake of the charity, and they begrudgingly agree. During the event Nikki goes out on the catwalk just as the mayor and his wife get into a heated argument with each other. Hoping to disguise their feud, Mike rushes out to distract the assembled press, accidentally knocking Nikki over in the process. After that night the mayor moves out of Mike’s apartment and laments the deteriorated state of his marital relationship. Mike subtly suggests that the mayor think about getting a divorce regardless of the potential political ramifications. The mayor takes it into consideration but does not come to a decision about it. James helps Stuart make a speech to try to get himself out of being his building’s president, although it does not prove to be particularly successful. Includes commercials.
