DREW CAREY SHOW, THE: WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS EPISODE? (TV)
Summary
One in this series of comedies starring stand-up comedian Drew Carey as a single guy who attempts to juggle his romantic endeavors and his menial job at a Cleveland department store, while still maintaining his sense of humor. This episode is part of an April Fools Day contest where the viewers are invited to spot and record various mistakes in the episode for a cash prize. The episode proper begins as Mimi announces to the office that her sexual harassment lawsuit has been settled out of court. Nigel is overjoyed at being put in charge while Mrs. Louder and the executives are on a trip to Kyoto. He starts by firing an employee unless he can shoot an apple off his head with a crossbow. He is unconcerned, since he rigged the crossbow not to fire. However, the rigging fails and Nigel is shot in the groin with a crossbow bolt. He sends word from the hospital that Drew is to be left in charge while he recovers. Drew is excited at being given the position and decides not to fire anyone while he's in charge in order to be respected and beloved, unlike Nigel. Drew begins his duties as manager of the office, and Mimi takes the opportunity to play pranks on him. The other office workers approach Drew about his "no-firing policy" and are overjoyed when he announces that he is serious about it. He believes that treating the employees well in this manner will cause them to work harder. Soon Drew gains popularity and respect from the office. He witnesses Larry treating a customer poorly and confronts him about it. Larry expects to be fired, but Drew sticks to his new policy. Larry and several of his co-workers decide to take advantage of Drew's generosity by breaking all manner of rules around the office and ignoring their duties. Soon Drew finds himself unable to discipline the office; they feel no compunction to follow the rules since they cannot be fired. The whole store swiftly descends into chaos. Nigel returns from the hospital despite having not fully recovered yet. He says he was worried Drew might be a threat to his position but now believes that he was mistaken. Drew attempts reverse-psychology on the office to get them to fall in line, but they continue to shirk their responsibilities unabated. Mrs. Louder returns early from her trip to Kyoto, but no one is concerned, since they plan to shift all of the blame to Drew. Drew responds by firing one of them, and they subsequently fall in line when they realize they are no longer safe. Tape ends abruptly. Includes commercials.
