DONNA REED SHOW, THE: MY DAD (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about the wholesome Stone family of Hilldale: pediatrician Alex, homemaker Donna, and their teen-aged children, Mary and Jeff. In this episode, Jeff is convinced that he’s going to win the father and son golf tournament. As Mary and Donna cheer them on, the pair appears poised for success. However, Alex gets an emergency call before taking his first stroke. That night, Jeff joins Smitty and his father for bowling. Alex says he can go along, but falls asleep on the couch. When Jeff returns, he and Alex have an impromptu get-together. The next day, Alex gets home early for a bowling session with Jeff, then is called back to the hospital. Alex tells Donna that he’s troubled by having to continually disappoint Jeff. When Jeff performs in a stage production to cap father-son week, Alex is pulled over en route to the school and redirected to an accident scene by police. After the show, Alex, Donna, and Mary arrive backstage and try to cheer up the depressed Jeff. After Alex says he’s sorry, Jeff reprises his number from the show, singing “My Dad” as the entire family breaks down in tears. Commercials deleted.
