SPIN CITY: MY DINNER WITH CAITLIN (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about the Deputy Mayor of New York City and his co-workers at City Hall as they deal with problems both professional and personal. It's Christmastime, and Carter can't help but notice sexual tension between Mike and Caitlin, although Mike insists otherwise. Mike starts inviting people to his annual Christmas party. While preparing the mayor for a meeting with a Swedish ambassador, Stuart sets up a chin-up bar for him, but the mayor succeeds only in injuring his back. Nikki holds a clothing drive for the homeless, but Paul makes off with a headband which he is convinced belonged to tennis star John McEnroe. James volunteers for a suicide hotline and accepts calls, but makes little progress. Mike attempts to invite Caitlin to his party, but does so in a way that makes it seem he is asking her to his place on a date. Realizing this, he immediately cancels the party in order to make the date happen. However, Caitlin finds out about the party and doesn't realize it was cancelled, thus she is not aware that Mike is planning a date. Nikki gives Paul's headband to a homeless man, infuriating Paul. Mike prepares a romantic evening for Caitlin, but she shows up at his apartment with a date of her own. Mike panics and attempts to gather up his co-workers for his party, all while trying to cover up his mistake for Caitlin. However, she learns the truth from James and is angry, although she is content to let the scenario play out for the moment. The mayor orders a masseuse, but she ends up being sent to Stuart while the Swedish ambassador is sent to the mayor, who mistakes her for the masseuse. Mike's party soon falls apart as he scrambles to find guests: James brings several suicidal men from his crisis hotline, Nikki brings her grandmother, and Janelle interrupts her karate practice to arrive. Finally Caitlin gets Mike to admit that he believed she was coming over for a date. Paul manages to steal the headband back from the homeless man, but injures himself in the process. Carter informs Mike that Caitlin's date is actually a bartender she most likely contacted at the last minute to accompany her. Mike decides to make fun of her for her deception. The next day, Mike attempts to get Caitlin to admit that she wanted him to ask her on a date, but she refuses. Includes commercials.
