BOY MEETS WORLD: BRAVE NEW WORLD {SERIES FINALE} (TV)
Summary
The finale in this comedy series about teenager Cory Matthews, who balances his theories on life and friendship against those of his off-the-wall Philadelphia-based family. In this two-part episode, which features many flashbacks and clips of scenes from previous episodes, Topanga tells Cory that she has decided to turn down the internship at the law firm in New York, meaning that they can stay in Philadelphia. Cory is thrilled, though Shawn points out that she may not have sincerely meant it. At home, Eric summons Mr. Feeny with his patented "Feeny Call" and explains that Cory needs advice, asking him for "the usual." Cory explains that Topanga gave up the internship for him, but Feeny uses a potted plant metaphor to suggest that she may have done so for other reasons, noting that she needs room to grow and flourish but is afraid of change. Topanga admits that she has never failed at anything because she has "played it safe," and Cory says that they should take the risk and go to New York after all, reflecting on the strength of their long-term relationship with all its ups and downs. Amy and Alan fret about losing Cory, though they are slightly cheered to hear that Eric will be going with them.
Elsewhere, Rachel explains to Jack that she wants to enter the Peace Corps, and Eric tells Jack that he will be going to New York, thinking back on their brotherly relationship and rivalry over Rachel. Cory attempts to say goodbye to Shawn and finds it impossible, and Topanga finally invites her husband's best friend to come along with them, knowing that the two cannot be parted. Alan and Amy reflect on their relationships with their two sons and their unusual bonding experiences as they prepare to say goodbye. Shawn and Jack say their farewells, observed by the spirit of their father Chet, and Jack decides to accompany Rachel into the Peace Corps after all and give up his stepfather's money to do good in the world. Cory spends some time alone with his little brother Joshua and gives him some advice about life and "meeting the world," and says his goodbye to Morgan as well. Later, Shawn, Jack, Cory and Topanga meet up in Mr. Feeny's old classroom at John Adams, asking their friend if he has anything left to teach them. They point out that they are clearly his favorites and, despite his declaration of "a line between teacher and student," they all say their individual goodbyes to him and tell him how much he meant in their lives. Once alone in the classroom, Feeny is finally able to say "I love you all. Class dismissed." Includes commercials and promos.
