CHEERS: TEACHING WITH THE ENEMY {PART 1 OF 2} (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about a group of regulars at a Boston bar.

When a local biker bar closes down, its biker patrons start visiting Cheers and starting fights, leaving Sam frustrated. To help stop fights from breaking out, Sam hires a burly fellow named Tiny, the former bouncer of the biker bar. Meanwhile, Rebecca accidentally catches Lilith having sex in her car with someone other than Frasier. Lilith pulls Rebecca aside, insisting that her indiscretion was only temporary and that she said goodbye to the other man. She asks that Rebecca not tell anyone until Lilith gets the chance to speak with Frasier about it, although Rebecca says she will have difficulty resisting the urge to tell everyone about it, as she feels the news is too "juicy" to be kept secret.

Tiny proves to be effective at stopping fights but is also so intimidating that he scares customers away. Rebecca has so much difficulty restraining herself from telling everyone the news about Lilith that she must physically prevent herself from doing so. Frasier and Lilith come down from their dinner in the upstairs restaurant and Lilith sits down with Frasier to reveal that she has cheated on him. Frasier reacts poorly to the news, storming out of the bar. Rebecca admits to the others that she kept the news to herself for an entire hour, proud of herself for doing so. Later, Lilith finds Frasier sitting alone on a park bench. They sit down to talk about the incident, and Lilith reveals that the other man was her colleague Dr. Louis Pascal, a research scientist. She says she never intended to hurt Frasier but felt alone, and indicates that she felt their marriage was starting to dissolve. Frasier starts psychoanalyzing Lilith's motives for cheating on him until she gets him to stop, asking him to speak to her like a human being. He says that he's willing to move past the incident if she tells Dr. Pascal that she never wants to see him again. She seems to agree and leaves to tell Dr. Pascal immediately.

Sam keeps trying to fire Tiny, but each time he tries he is too intimidated to go through with it. He and the others start conspiring to devise a way to get Tiny to leave. Tiny overhears them and feels hurt by their rejection, excusing himself from the bar. Sam and the others feel no remorse for having driven Tiny away, congratulating each other. Frasier enters and starts drinking heavily, becoming inebriated and morose. He comes to the conclusion that it was his fault that Lilith cheated on him, and when she arrives he tells her as much. He forgives her and asks her to come back to him, but she instead announces that she's in love with Dr. Pascal and is leaving Frasier before exiting the bar. Frasier is humiliated and devastated by this new development. Commercials deleted.
