NAT KING COLE SHOW, THE {TONY BENNETT, THE BEACHCOMBERS WITH NATALIE} (TV)

Summary

One in this musical variety series hosted by the popular vocalist and pianist Nat "King" Cole, one of the first major black entertainers to host his own series.

Presented from the Sands hotel and casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, Cole introduces his guests Tony Bennett and The Beachcombers with Natalie. Bennett urges Cole to "take it easy," assuring him that, in honor of his 47th episode and his successful four-week run at the Sands, his guests will "handle his introductions" for the evening. Cole sings "Little Girl" and "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter"; Bennett performs "In the Middle of an Island" and "I Am." Cole performs the title song from the new film "Raintree County" (1957), and The Beachcombers with Natalie sing "It Must Be True," after which Cole joins them for "Muskrat Ramble."

Cole performs a song promoting Rheingold beer, and Bennett grandly introduces Cole's "memory song," "Stardust." Finally, Cole is joined by surprise guest Jane Russell, who is set to perform in the Sands' Copa Room after Cole's return to Hollywood. Includes commercials for Rheingold.
