BLANSKY'S BEAUTIES: NANCY REMEMBERS LAVERNE (TV)

Summary

This spin-off of “Happy Days” is about Nancy Blansky, den mother to a bevy of Las Vegas showgirls in 1977. In this episode, Anthony puts the moves on Sunshine after hearing about her upcoming date, negating the fact that he’s only twelve. Nancy returns from a fishing expedition with Arnold, not knowing what to do with all their catches. Then, Joey talks to Nancy as he’s bummed out about his dancing career and doesn’t know if he has the dedication to follow his dreams. Trying to cheer Joey up, Nancy recounts a talent search she had in Milwaukee back in 1957 when she went to do a benefit at the Pfister Convention Center. Upon arriving, the show’s producer, Frank DeFazio, introduces his starstruck daughter, Laverne, who questions Nancy about her undergarments and how she became “a big Broadway star.” Laverne also gets an autograph for her best friend, Shirley Feeney. Then, Nancy hires Laverne as her assistant for the weekend, after which Laverne attempts to display her stenographic skills. Later, at the benefit, Nancy’s local partner cancels and Nancy is forced to enlist Laverne as a substitute. Together, they sing and dance to “Fit as a Fiddle (and Ready for Love”). Surprisingly, Laverne performs so well that Nancy asks her to join her show in Vegas. However, by the next day, Laverne reveals that she no longer wants to follow her dream of being a Vegas dancer; she’d rather stay in Milwaukee and continue working at the brewery. Back in the present, Joey is distracted by Cochise, but decides to stick to his rehearsing. At Nancy’s prodding, however, he also finds time to relax with Cochise. Includes commercials.
