SEX AND THE CITY: TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME {SECOND SEASON PREMIERE} (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about Carrie Bradshaw, a single Manhattanite who writes a popular sex-advice column for a newspaper while dishing out dating advice and dirt with her three closest friends. In this episode, Carrie is still hurting over her breakup with Mr. Big a month earlier and fears that she will run into him again, and her friends decide to take her mind off of things. Charlotte urges her to give it time, but Miranda suggests a more succinct approach in forgetting her ex. The girls head to a baseball game, though everyone except Miranda is disinterested in the sport and Samantha is still upset about her under-endowed boyfriend James. Carrie notes her poor "batting average" in dating, but manages to catch a fly ball, and the four of them head to the locker room to have it signed by the cute new Yankee. Upon meeting him, Carrie impulsively asks him out, and the others are impressed by her rebound style. Later, Carrie writes her column, wondering about the best "breakup rules," and later is upset to find a photo of herself and Big. She then attends a Dolce and Gabbana party with the Yankee, Joe, as well as Charlotte and her latest flame, who turns out to have a bad habit of constantly adjusting himself. A picture of Carrie and her famous date appears on Page Six, and Samantha and Charlotte are pleased that Big will see it, though Charlotte is still vexed by her date's grabby habit. Miranda, however, gets fed up with all the endless boyfriend talk and leaves.
Samantha tries desperately to "coach" James into improving in bed, despite his shortcomings, but has no luck. Charlotte gives her guy a pair of "supportive" underwear, hoping it will help his problem, but he states that things are going "too fast" between them and ends it. Out on the street, Miranda spots her own ex-boyfriend and flees, shocked to realize that she is still hurt by their breakup. While out with Joe, Carrie really does run into Big, and though their meeting is cordial, Carrie is upset by it and ends up telling Joe that she is "not ready" for a new relationship. She calls Miranda, who apologizes for her behavior and admits that she saw her ex too and that breakups are hard, telling Carrie to take her time in getting over Big.
