I'M WITH HER: POISON IVY (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about a schoolteacher’s relationship with a famous movie star. Alex is convinced that despite her Academy Award nomination, there is no chance of her winning. Cheri and Steve plan to campaign on her behalf at the Motion Picture Retirement Home. Alex sees on the news that Ivy Tyler, a fellow actress and an old friend of hers’, has just been released from rehab. She has recently battled a number of addictions and was caught shoplifting, and Alex is sympathetic towards her. However, Alex is nervous when Ivy unexpectedly arrives at her house, emerging from the bushes. Alex introduces Ivy to everyone, and it is apparent that Ivy still suffers from mental issues. She leaves to find a place to live, but Alex feels bad for her and decides to invite her to stay in her house for a few days, despite Patrick’s misgivings. Cheri and Steve visit the retirement home to make their case, but the retirees prove to be an obstinate crowd. Soon Patrick and Alex find that Ivy is taking advantage of their hospitality overmuch, but Alex takes it in stride and even secures a small part for her in her latest film. Alex explains that she feels she “stole” Ivy’s career, recounting an incident in their early acting days when she inadvertently secured a part in a film Ivy was trying out for. This marked the beginning of Ivy’s downward spiral, and Alex has felt compelled to help her out of guilt ever since. Steve and Cheri continue to ply the retirees, and Steve comes to enjoy visiting the retirement home. Patrick catches Ivy swallowing pills; she remarks that she’s nervous about working in Alex’s film alongside her. She asks Patrick to run lines with her and he reluctantly complies. Patrick becomes especially uncomfortable when Ivy kisses him, and he immediately informs Alex about it. Patrick tries to convince Alex that her taking Ivy’s part is unrelated to her personal problems, and that ultimately she has to take responsibility for herself. During filming, Ivy tries to convince Alex that it was Patrick who tried to kiss her. They get into an argument about it and try to physically fight each other while hanging suspended on wires. Includes commercials.
