COSBY: OL' BETSY (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series about Hilton Lucas, who finds himself retired after his job at the airport is eliminated.

Hilton attempts to repair his old turntable, “Ol’ Betsy,” and Pauline recommends an antique shop to him, believing it will have a part that he requires. He and Jurnee go to the store and interact with the elderly owner, Tim. While shopping there he also meets Fred, who says he is a sculptor looking to utilize “junk” in his artistic creations. They soon realize that they knew each other when they were much younger and catch up on old times; Fred notes that he was married but that his wife is now deceased. Later they go together to the café and Hilton introduces him to Ruth and Erica. They continue to reminisce about dating women from the same family and dealing with their obstinate parents. Fred comes over to Hilton’s house and they continue to tell stories of the old days. Hilton makes an effort to locate Mattie, Fred’s old flame. He finds out that she went on to get married, but that her husband passed away ten years ago. He has little success until Griffin manages to locate her by searching on the internet.

Together Hilton, Ruth, and Fred travel to an apartment building in Tenafly, New Jersey to visit Mattie. However, they find that she has changed addresses, and are directed to her by the apartment’s current occupant. Finally they find Mattie and she invites them in, immediately recognizing Fred. Ruth and Hilton leave Fred and Mattie alone and Fred makes his attraction toward her quite plain, believing that they can resume their relationship after many years apart. Ruth and Hilton leave just as Mattie invites Fred to spend the night. Commercials deleted.
