DAYS, THE: DAY 1,385 (TV)
Summary
One in this short-lived drama series about the seemingly ordinary Day family of Philadelphia. Every episode depicts twenty-four hours in the family's life. In this episode, Cooper writes in his journal and annoys Natalie with his singing, and upon heading downstairs for a snack, he is surprised to find that Jack smells of marijuana. Earlier that day, Abby tells the family that she and Natalie have a joint doctor's appointment and Nathan has a "playdate" with Teddy, the boy he attacked, as ordered by the school. Jack objects to the forced socialization, resentful that he is now the stay-at-home parent. At the doctor's office, Natalie asks Abby about her first unexpected pregnancy, and Abby briefly daydreams about how her life might have been if she had gone with Scott instead of Jack. Elsewhere, Jack meets with a "wellness coordinator" and tells her that he became a lawyer more or less by chance, though she counters that he made a series of choices that brought him to his current situation. At school, Cooper struggles with his newfound popularity and his relationship with Emma, and she reminds him to write the article about the merits of attending school sports events.
Jack tells Gib about his shrink session, and Gib invites him to a guys' night out. Nathan encounters Teddy, who is equally wary of spending the afternoon with the boy who "went psycho on him." Dr. Brugano marvels at the unlikelihood of Abby and Natalie's simultaneous pregnancies and points out that Abby's is high-risk due to her age. When the doctor asks, Natalie admits that she is still unsure about keeping the baby. Emma finds Cooper hanging out with his stoner friends and orders him to "make adjustments" to his style and demeanor, and he wonders if their physical relationship is worth being used by her. Abby admits that she wants Natalie to keep the pregnancy, assuring her that she and Jack will support her and her baby if she does. At work, Abby learns that Scott has been flirting with Tyler, though she firmly declares that she is not jealous. Natalie bonds with Trey as they play the piano together and she explains that she too once had musical dreams before getting sidetracked with soccer, and he muses that life is full of choices before kissing her. Abby is annoyed when Jack tells her that he is too busy with his "meeting" to pick up their son later, and Nathan heads off to Teddy's despite Maria's warnings.
Zanni accuses Cooper of abandoning his formerly "subversive" writing, and he realizes that he has reached a "fork in the road." Teddy introduces Nathan to the world of trashy TV and video games, and Natalie and Trey go for a swim together as she shares her uncertainty about the pregnancy, though she is taken aback when he casually reveals her condition to his father. While out at a bar, Gib tells Jack that life will make his choices for him if he does not take a stand, and Cooper makes a decision and chooses Zanni over Emma, though she strongly rejects him. Abby is surprised to find Nathan enjoying himself at Teddy's, and though she dislikes his newly bratty attitude, she points out that he should consider having more childish fun occasionally. Natalie decides to continue with the pregnancy, and she is pleased when Cooper explains that he threw out the article and assures him that he will soon be "invisible" again. Jack is surprised when his friends light up a joint, but he later tells Cooper that he himself did not imbibe and sternly tells his son to stay away from drugs. Abby dreams about her alternate life again and finds that she is always drawn back to Jack, though upon waking she struggles to tell him about Scott. Jack finally talks with Natalie, apologizing for his discomfort about her pregnancy, and the two make up. includes commercials and promos.
