BOSTON LEGAL: STILL CRAZY AFTER ALL THESE YEARS (TV)
Summary
One in this darkly comic series focusing on a firm of brilliant but emotionally-challenged attorneys in Boston. In this episode, Alan plans to have a woman, Christine, released from a mental hospital, where she has been held for six months after attempting to kill her boyfriend—Alan. At a staff meeting, Alan continues needling Brad and Denny declares that he will handle the deposition of an important client's case against a hospital, which seems to worry Paul. When Alan mentions Christine's case, Sally is upset that he did not tell her privately, as they are dating. He banters with Christine's doctors, who state that medication has helped her to stabilize over the six months, but Christine reveals that she has not been taking the medicine at all and has been without incident anyway. Alan defends her, saying that she is no longer dangerous and that he will be her guardian until she leaves for her parents' in Chicago, and the doctors are forced to let her go. During the deposition, Denny questions a wealthy woman suing over her husband's death during surgery, and he tries to point out her lack of genuine "emotional distress" by making inappropriate, flirtatious comments about her sex life, much to Brad's frustration. Lori warns Sally to avoid Alan, as one ex-girlfriend has already tried to kill him, but she seems unconvinced.
Brad calls Denny out on his boorish behavior, telling him that he is now seen as a "complete joke" by the other partners. Alan and Christine spend an uneventful night together at the hotel where he lives, and she heads off for the airport in the morning. Brad tells Paul that he tried to "control" Denny during the deposition, but adds that Denny wants to personally defend himself in the hearing about his sexual comments, and Paul unexpectedly agrees. Lori, however, points out to Brad that the senior partners want Denny to embarrass himself in order to have a reason to fire him. Christine arrives as Alan attempts to charm Sally, saying that her flight was delayed, but after explaining that he is dating someone new, Alan turns down her lunch invitation and sends her away. At the hearing, the other lawyer accuses Denny of demeaning his client and the bar itself with his behavior, but Denny cleverly retorts that the lawyer is just using his client and feeding his own ego by refusing to settle her case and instead demanding a trial. Alan and Sally get friendly at work, spotted by Lori, and they later head out on a date at a bar, but Alan is unnerved when he sees Christine there, watching.
Tara declares that Christine is stalking him and should be re-committed, but Alan is unsure. Brad tells Paul that Denny won his hearing and settled the hospital case, but when he attempts to compliment Denny, Denny tells him that he does not need his praise and is already aware of the partners' attempts to oust him. Christine arrives and swears that she merely stayed in town a bit longer to meet with her former boss and did not intend to crash Alan and Sally's date, but she seems angry when he declines to discuss Sally further. The lawyers later attend a fancy office party, and Paul congratulates Denny on the case, but Denny is still offended at his longtime friend's plan to discredit him. Paul gently tells him that he is still a good lawyer, but he is no longer "Denny Crane." Alan shares a moment alone with Lori and asks why she warned Sally against being with him, and she maintains that he will surely hurt her. Alan then shares a dance with Sally, but Christine calls and asks to talk face-to-face, and he is taken aback when she arrives and reveals that her old boss has rehired her and that she will be staying in Boston after all. Includes commercials and promos. Program is briefly interrupted by on-screen text announcing the death of actor Christopher Reeve.
