ALIAS: THE AWFUL TRUTH (TV)

Summary

One in this dramatic action series about Sydney Bristow, who leads a double life as a graduate student by day and a CIA double agent by night. In this episode, the team heads to a bank in the Bahamas and Vaughn and Dixon cause a distraction as Sydney and Marshall break into a safe to acquire an account holder's name. Back in L.A., Sydney throws a party for Weiss' birthday, and she and Vaughn happily observe the flirtation between Nadia and Weiss. Jack crashes the party and questions Sydney about her increased closeness with Nadia, and Sydney states that she intends to tell Nadia the truth about their mother Irina, including the fact that Jack killed her for her treachery. Back at the office, Sloane briefs the agents about a code-breaking device called the Valta, the theft of which was financed from the bank account of one Martin Bishop, a "lady-killer" known for procuring and selling high-risk military devices. They decide to locate Bishop and find or destroy the Valta, though Nadia stays behind to complete her psychological evaluation with Jack, and Sydney tells him that she will not break the news about Irina until after the mission.

Marshall discovers that Bishop owns property in Spain and is likely hiding the Valta's location on a high-tech server that can only be hacked from the inside, so they head to Andalusia and fake a car crash near his property, prompting Bishop to "save" Sydney, or "Charlene," from the wreckage and take her to his home. At the same time, back at APO, Jack analyzes Nadia's responses to various hypothetical situations. Bishop looks through Sydney's belongings as she showers, and she implies that she has escaped a dangerous relationship. Vaughn keeps an eye on her from afar, and when Bishop leaves, Sydney sneaks into his basement and hacks his server, discovering that the Valta is hidden at a shipyard in Malaga. Sloane reports the news to Langley and Sydney prepares to escape, but is halted when Bishop returns unexpectedly. Sloane tells Jack that Sydney cannot be extracted yet, lest she blow her cover, and Jack decides to head to Spain with Nadia in tow. Vaughn urges Sydney to escape, knowing that Bishop will suspect her when he hears of the raid on the shipyard. Sure enough, Bishop soon receives a call informing him that his server was recently accessed from within his home, and he realizes that "Charlene" is really CIA, and he exits his house through a secret tunnel, dragging Sydney with him.

In Malaga, Weiss destroys the Valta with a grenade and is captured by Bishop's men. Vaughn and Marshall frantically track Sydney's signal, and on the plane, Jack gives Nadia some new intelligence, telling her that Sydney is unaware of his recent findings. Bishop holds Sydney and Weiss captive, saying that the German terrorist cell to whom he planned to sell the Valta will kill him for losing it unless he can offer them better information, and he attempts to interrogate them. Sydney breaks free and saves Weiss, who is pleased to realize that she and Vaughn are now part of a black-ops team after all. Sydney chases Bishop and ends up on the roof of his car, and as he prepares to kill her, Nadia arrives and saves her, shooting Bishop repeatedly in a rage. She then tells Sydney that Bishop was responsible for Irina's death, and Sydney realizes that Jack tricked her into believing so in order to protect himself. Sydney confronts her father about the lie, but he states that Nadia needed "closure" and that the problem is solved. Includes commercials and promos.
