BATMAN: INSTANT FREEZE (TV)
Summary
One in this series of comedy adventure programs about the Batman, a crimefighting superhero, and his youthful sidekick Robin.
The Gotham City Ice Skating Rink is melted by a man in an armored suit wielding a flamethrower, and the police give chase. The man causes the motorcycle cop chasing him to skid out of control by using a device to produce an ice slick. Commissioner Gordon determines that Mr. Freeze is the culprit and summons Batman and Robin to take him down. Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson are entertaining guests at Wayne Manor in the form of three members of the Gotham City Eagles baseball team when he takes Commissioner Gordon’s call, sending them away on a pretense. Batman and Robin arrive at the police headquarters to investigate; Batman notes aloud that Mr. Freeze must remain constantly in a special suit which keeps his body at fifty degrees below zero in order to stay alive. Batman accidentally caused this condition by knocking him into a beaker of chemicals during a fight at his laboratory, and now he surmises that Mr. Freeze wants revenge on him. Batman blames himself for this, although the others tell him not to feel guilty, as Mr. Freeze had been experimenting with instant-freeze solutions for some criminal undertaking. Batman hopes to capture Mr. Freeze and somehow restore him to normal.
At Mr. Freeze’s frozen mountain hideout, he and his men plot a scheme to first discredit and then destroy Batman. Meanwhile, Batman and Robin test their endurance to super-cold temperatures, but find that their anti-freeze capsules are not sufficient to deal with Mr. Freeze’s weaponry. A series of decoys posing as Batman are sighted all over Gotham City, and Commissioner Gordon informs Batman of this discovery. Batman and Robin deduce, based on the locations of the false Batman sightings, that Mr. Freeze plans to rob the Gotham City Diamond Exchange, and they go there to try and stop him. Mr. Freeze and his men are already there and in the process of breaking into the safe, hoping to rob the valuable “Star of Kashmir” diamond. Suddenly five men dressed as Batman and five dressed as Mr. Freeze enter the building. The real Batman and Robin come upon this scene and a chaotic fight ensues. In the confusion Mr. Freeze gets away and disables the Batmobile, preventing Batman and Robin from chasing him.
Using the Batcave’s computer, Batman and Robin determine that Mr. Freeze is after an extremely valuable diamond, the “Giaclo Circlo,” owned by Sandra, the princess of the European principality of Molino, coming to Gotham City to attend a charity baseball game. She arrives in Gotham City that night and Batman and Robin rush to protect her before Mr. Freeze can strike again. Princess Sandra makes arrangements concerning her visit from the Gotham City Hotel as Mr. Freeze’s men sneak him into her room, allowing her to surprise her. Mr. Freeze seizes the diamond as Batman and Robin scale the side of the hotel and burst into the room. Mr. Freeze escapes and freezes Batman and Robin solid.
