EXTRAS: PATRICK STEWART (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy about wannabe actors trying to find fame while employed as extras. In this episode, Andy and Maggie watch as Patrick Stewart enacts a scene from his new production. Andy is less than happy when Greg wanders over, bragging about his new gig. Andy goes to Patrick’s trailer and “hustles” for more exposure. Patrick tells Andy about the new sci-fi script that he’s written, with most scenes revolving around naked women. Andy then passes his script on to Patrick, who shows a lack of interest when Andy says it doesn’t focus on bare skin. However, he still promises to pass it along to his BBC contacts. Later, Andy is called in to Darren’s office for news about his script, a coup for which Darren tries to take credit. Darren and Andy meet with BBC agent Iain Morris and fey producer/writer Damon Beesley, both of whom express interest in the project. Later, Andy brainstorms with Damon as Maggie drops by. When Damon leaves on a coffee run, Andy criticizes him for being “a gay cliché.” On her way out, Maggie tries to wise up Damon to Andy’s feelings. Back with Iain and Damon, Andy is thrilled to hear that his script is being considered for a pilot, at least until Iain confronts Andy about his anti-gay remarks. Iain accuses Andy of being homophobic, and admits that he, too, is gay. Andy takes Maggie to task for telling his feelings to Damon. Ultimately, Damon and Andy make amends, to Iain’s relief. Meanwhile, Maggie makes a drastic change to her apartment, based on Andy’s earlier criticisms. Afterward, Andy gets Patrick to call Maggie and apologize on Andy’s behalf.
