MONA MCCLUSKEY: THE GENERAL SWINGS AT DAWN (TV)
Summary
One in this comedy series about a glamorous actress who opts for a less ostentatious life after marrying a no-nonsense Air Force sergeant.
In this episode, General Horace Crone asks Mike to pick up Jim Stanton, his clean-cut nephew at the airport. As Mike is busy, Mona volunteers to replace him. At the airport, Mona is shocked to find that Jim has become a full-fledged beatnik. When reporter Charlie tries to snap Jim's photo for a story, Mona protests and secretly brings Jim back to her place. There, Mona finds that she can barely understand Jim's "groovy" dialect.
When the general arrives, he's taken aback at Jim's appearance, "way out" clothes, and verbal "gibberish." The general asks if Jim can stay with Mike and Mona until they come up with a better solution. That night, Mona accompanies Jim to a local hippie hangout, wearing her brand new "space suit."
The next morning, Mona tells Mike that she's getting Jim to trust her. Later, General Somers asks Horace if he can meet Jim. Mona then comes up with a game plan: she suggests that Horace dress like Jim to make Jim realize how silly he looks. Horace forces Mike to join him in wearing "new threads," much to Mike's chagrin. However, When General Somers sees them in the getups, the pair come clean about their motives.
Meanwhile, Mona levels with Jim and asks him to tone down his appearance for Horace's benefit. When Mona brings home a cleaned-up Jim, General Somers tells Horace to act more like his nephew. But before departing, Jim reveals a secret that shocks everyone. Commercials deleted.
