LOST: JI YEON (TV)
Summary
One in this fantasy drama series about a group of plane-crash survivors forced to live with each other on a remote and mysterious island. Characters' past lives are told through frequent flashbacks. In this episode, aboard the Kahana, Lapidus brings food to Desmond and Sayid, who are still under guard by a distracted Regina. Sayid again demands to speak to the captain, but Lapidus cautions him against it. On the island, Jin tells Sun that he is sure their baby is a girl and suggests the name "Ji Yeon," but Sun, remembering what Juliet told her, says it is bad luck to discuss names so soon. Off the island, a heavily pregnant Sun suffers severe pains and calls for an ambulance. At the same time, Jin buys a large stuffed panda and heads for the maternity ward. Kate returns and tells Sun and Jin about Juliet's lie about the power station, doubting that they are going to be rescued any time soon. On the freighter, Desmond and Sayid receive a note, possibly from Ben's spy, telling them not to trust the captain. Sun introduces herself to Daniel and bluntly asks if his people are going to rescue them or not, and he explains that it is "not his call." Fed up, Sun tells Jin that they are going to Locke's camp, but Juliet catches her as she packs her belongings. She urges her not to go, but Sun tells her that she no longer believes her statement that pregnant women regularly die on the island.
Off-island, Sun is rushed into the hospital and begs the doctors to find Jin. Elsewhere, Jin loses both his phone and his panda and rushes back to the toy store, desperate to buy another. Kate draws a map for Sun and Jin, but Juliet intervenes and again and tells Jin that his wife is "very sick." Jin states that he is going with Sun no matter what, and in desperation, Juliet tells him about Sun's affair. Jin is stunned and, ignoring Sun's pleas to hear her out, leaves her and goes fishing with Bernard. Bernard discusses the complexities of marriage and then reveals that Rose's cancer was apparently cured by the island, but cites karma in explaining why they both refused to side with Locke, whom they know to be a murderer. On the Kahana, Desmond and Sayid are finally summoned to see the captain, observing that Lapidus is off somewhere "running errands" in the helicopter. They are horrified when Regina, having wrapped herself in chains, jumps off the ship to her death. Captain Gault appears and makes no attempt to save her, explaining that the crew is suffering from "a heightened case of cabin fever" because of the island, as their engine was damaged by the unknown saboteur. He then reveals that the ship belongs to Charles Widmore, Desmond's father-in-law, and then tells them about the "discovery" of the falsified Oceanic 815 wreckage and the bodies within, pointing out that it would take a great deal of money and effort to stage such a lie and again demanding to see Ben.
Juliet apologizes to Sun and reiterates in detail that she will die within weeks if she does not leave the island. At the hospital, Sun again asks for Jin as she struggles through a hard labor, finally giving birth to a healthy baby. On the freighter, Desmond and Sayid are shown to their filthy stateroom, and when the janitor, "Kevin Johnson," is summoned, they are shocked to see that it is in fact Michael. Jin approaches Sun with dinner and tells her that he too made mistakes in their marriage, but that they are improving and that he forgives her. Relieved, she tells him that she no longer wants to visit Locke's camp, having been convinced by Juliet that they must leave, and assures him that their baby is indeed his. Off-island, Jin respectfully delivers the panda to a Chinese client of Mr. Paik's who has just become a grandfather, telling a nurse that he himself has only been married for two months, revealing that it is actually a flashback. In the future, Hurley meets Sun's baby, and the trio heads off to "see Jin." They arrive at a graveyard and Sun addresses a headstone, tearfully telling Jin that she misses him greatly and named their daughter "Ji Yeon," as he requested – though the date on the grave is that of the 815 crash, putting Jin's true fate into question.
