NOTES FROM THE UNDERBELLY: NOT WITHOUT MY NOODLES (TV)

Summary

One in this comedy series, based upon the Risa Green book of the same name, about Andrew and Lauren, a couple expecting their first child. In this episode, Lauren balks at the idea of returning an unwanted diaper bag, saying that she dislikes baby stores. Andrew explains that their wealthy friends Julie and Eric are having a "coming-out party" for their baby Percy and that he has been hired to help them plan it, though Lauren warns him that working for friends often ends badly. In a hurry to meet Cooper for lunch, she tries to quickly return the diaper bag, but finds herself making many more baby-themed purchases, and Julie happily tells her over the phone that she is finally "nesting." A highly annoyed Cooper calls her out on her tardiness and Lauren promises to make it up to her with dinner, while elsewhere Andrew struggles to please Julie, who has very elaborate and specific ideas about the party. At work, Lauren accidentally falls in love with Barb's sesame noodle lunch, and when Andrew complains that Julie is being impossible, she informs him that he cannot quit on his friends.

Lauren then discovers that the noodles come from a diet program and tries to purchase more of them, but the woman in charge refuses to allow her into the program because of her pregnancy. She begs Cooper to enroll instead, while elsewhere Andrew recruits Danny to assist him with Percy's extravagant party, which Eric admits is getting out of hand. Cooper grudgingly attends a support group meeting for the diet program, and when she delivers the noodles, Lauren is taken aback to find that she has befriended an equally acerbic woman, Deena. She frets that Cooper is trying to "replace" her now that she is pregnant, and when Andrew patiently attempts to tell Julie that "less is more" for the party, Julie decides that he must fire Danny. Lauren tags along on Cooper and Deena's night out and desperately tries to convince Cooper that Deena is an unworthy companion, later telling Julie that Deena is only a "revenge friend." Andrew finds himself unable to fire Danny and instead quits the job after all, and Julie and Eric admit that they only hired him out of friendship. Lauren tells Cooper that she still needs her sharp wit to help her through the pregnancy, and Cooper decides that she needs to be "the meanest one" in her friendships and rejects Deena. Danny admits to Andrew that he is still assisting with Percy's party, revealing that he guilted Julie and Eric into not firing him. Includes commercials and promos.
