SEVCEC EN VIVO {PREMIERE} {TAPE 2 OF 2} {KOSOFSKY ETHNIC RADIO COLLECTION -- SPANISH} (RADIO)

Summary

Tape two of two. Continued from R:21258. The premiere in this series of live Spanish-language talk shows, broadcast for Latin American listeners in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Australia, emphasizing news, current events, and fun -- and the first program broadcast by Radio Unica. Host Pedro Sevcec continues by introducing actor Pedro Infante, Jr., who has played many macho roles. They briefly discuss the history and status of machismo, telling many jokes and stories about it. Next the host takes more calls commenting on the march of Guatemalan immigrants; listeners argue that all Latin-American immigrants should have the same rights and urge others to sign a petition to that effect. Several callers also congratulate Sevcec on the program and suggest themes for upcoming editions. Sevcec then recaps the world and local news. Stories covered include President Clinton's proposal to reinstate the food-stamp program; tension in southern Mexico, where Zapatist troops haven taken over some regions and killed forty-five people; the news of the capture of some Guatemalan army officials in possession of drugs; a march of Guatemalan and Honduran immigrants to obtain the same rights as the Nicaraguans, who thanks to Florida Congressman Lincoln D’as Vallard can now legalize their status and avoid deportation; and a Florida accident involving athlete Benito Santiago. Next, Sevcec briefly interviews a few Radio Unica personalities in order to give a hint of the flavor of the programs. These include the general director of the Radio Unica Program in Miami (RCN), Francisco Restrepo; therapist Dr. Isabela; meteorologist John Morales; and Jorge Ramos, host of the soccer World Cup. The host follows these interviews by talking to reporter Rodrigo Alonso. The two touch on the themes of this edition, as well as on sexual equality. They also return to the topic of the death of young people, discussing the deaths of Chris Farley and Michael Kennedy. Both Sevcec and Alonso respond to the calls that follow. One caller is comedian Ruben Figueroa, who shares his views on the new program and on machismo. Two more surprise interviews follow. Raqueline, Sevcec's wife, talks to Alonso about machismo and about her happy marriage; Alonso's wife Dulcilla speaks on similar topics with Sevcec. They discuss the origins of machismo -- and the "other side" of this trait, courtly behavior. Includes promos.
