Summary
Part one of two. One in this series of Spanish-language talk shows, broadcast on the weekends for Latin American listeners in the United States. "Fin de Semana" considers itself a super show, full of entertainment and fun. This edition is hosted by Jose Luis Arenas, with co-host comedians India Edelmira and Eduardo Ibarrola. The theme for the day is, "Tell me a story -- tell me a joke," and in response the listeners as well as the hosts tell jokes and stories either prepared in advance or made up on the spot. The program also includes news reported by Luis Cobal Rubias, and other information about movies, magazine headlines, books, and gossip. In addition, the hosts present musical moments. The artists featured in this first part of the show are Jose Guadalupe, Carlos Ponze, Lucilla Mendes, Alejandro Fernando, Pepe Alguilar, and Marco Antonio Luis. The news items presented include an attack on a gay student, the creation of a new Hispanic newspaper called "Today," an update on improvements in deportation procedures, the re-capture of an Alabama prisoner after twenty years, a briefing on the Kenneth Starr Report, and sports news presented by Alberto Gambetta. This part of the program concludes with more jokes, along with news that President Clinton has signed a resolution to keep the Federal Government in operation for a couple of additional days until Congress passes a budget -- plus a report about the negotiations among the presidents of Peru, Ecuador, and the U.S. in an effort to resolve conflicts at the border between the first two countries.
