SCOTT & TODD IN THE MORNING {WPLJ COVERAGE OF
WORLD TRADE CENTER ATTACK} {TERRORIST ATTACKS}
(TAPE 1 OF 3) (RADIO)

Summary

Tape one of three. One in this series of New York morning radio programs that air each weekday, comprised of traffic and news reports, celebrity interviews, and music "from the Eighties, Nineties, and today." This edition opens at six a.m. on Tuesday, September 11, 2001, as hosts Scott Shannon and Todd Pettengill (introduced by first name only) present a parody song that makes fun of New York mayoral candidate Fernando Ferrer. The disc jockeys then explain that the primary election is to take place later in the day. The two also go over the results of the previous night's "Monday Night Football" game and announce the guests for today's program, author/comedian Moon Unit Zappa and actress Sharon Lawrence. Shannon and Pettengill then play Michael Jackson's song "Billie Jean" and discuss their feelings about Jackson's concert at Madison Square Garden the previous night. The two attended the concert, and both report that they loved it. Next, reporter Carla Quinn turns in a traffic report. After a commercial break, the hosts play Matchbox 20's "Mad Season," after which WPLJ reporter Patty Steele reads the day's headlines. The news leads to a lengthy discussion among the show's crew and D.J.s about the rumor that basketball superstar Michael Jordan plans to emerge from retirement. Shannon and Pettengill then play another series of songs: Janet Jackson's "Someone to Call My Lover," Billy Idol's "Dancing with Myself," The Dave Matthews Band's "The Space Between," and Lifehouse's "Hanging By a Moment." Shannon and Pettengill then joke about the goings on during the current "Fashion Week" festivities in downtown New York, and they play Michael Jackson's new single, "You Rock My World." The tape concludes as the staff members continue to discuss Jackson's concert the previous night. Everyone agrees with one staffer's assertion that "Whitney Houston looked like a crack whore." Another staffer says that the weirdest moment of the night was Marlon Brando's opening speech. Includes commercials. Continues with R:24132.

Cataloging of this program was made possible by Ralph Guild, 2002.
