PHIL HENDRIE SHOW, THE {LIVE FROM THE MUSEUM OF
TELEVISION & RADIO IN LOS ANGELES} {TAPE 3 OF 3}
(RADIO)
Summary
Continued from R:25069. Tape three of three. One in
this comedic radio call-in series that looks at topical
issues through the eyes of different characters, all of
whom are creations of multi-voiced host Phil Hendrie.
This program is a live broadcast from The Museum of
Television & Radio in Los Angeles as part of the
Museum's Radio Festival. The tape continues with the
news: Vicki Moore reports on the military campaign in
Afghanistan; Alan LaGreen gives the traffic report;
Monica Evans reports on plans to paint the Hollywood
sign red, white, and blue in support of troops in
Afghanistan; Laura Ingle reports on a raid on the
Cannabis Club, which provides marijuana to patients who
need it for medical reasons; Moore closes with the
weather. Phil Hendrie returns with Ted Bell of Ted's of
Beverly Hills Steakhouse, ostensibly to discuss the
President's call for business owners to step up to the
challenge after September 11. The conversation soon
turns to Ted being pulled over for DUI by the California
Highway Patrol and his request that "people in business"
like him who finance independent movies should be given
a pass on DUI's. Ted argues that business owners who
drive Mercedes, Jaguars, BMW's, and Lexuses, and fly the
American flag should be allowed to drive drunk and
should not be pulled over for the next eighteen months.
After a brief break where LaGreen gives the traffic
update, Hendrie returns with Ted Bell and several
callers who argue with Ted about his drunk driving.
Moore returns with updates about the anthrax found on
the Capitol, President Bush's anti-terrorism
legislation, and bombing in Afghanistan; LaGreen gives
the traffic update. Hendrie returns with an
increasingly belligerent and obviously drunk Ted Bell
and more callers who object to Ted's arguments. LaGreen
gives a final traffic report. In the last minutes of
the tape, Hendrie previews next week's show from New
York and takes questions from the audience about how
Hendrie keeps himself from cracking up on the air;
Hendrie's relationship with Gary Oldman; the
demographics of the callers and the listeners; Hendrie's
favorite character, and which character elicits the
most caller response; how the word got out that all of
the characters are Hendrie; and marketing director Bill
Lewis's billboards that promoted Hendrie's suicide. The
tape ends with Vicki Moore's final news report on
Washington, D.C. anthrax finds and the Taliban arrest
and execution of opposition figure Abdul Haq. Tape ends
abruptly. Includes commercials.
Cataloging of this program was made possible by Ralph
Guild, 2003.
