
BOB AND RAY: A NIGHT OF TWO STARS (RADIO)
Summary
This special radio program stars comedy team Bob and Ray (Bob Elliott and Ray Goulding) performing "A Night of Two Stars" at Carnegie Hall. This two-hour program features some of their most popular comic sketches and a performance of "The Bob and Ray Public Radio Show." "The Bob and Ray Public Radio Show" then begins with introductions of the cast, and Webly Webster (Goulding) "playing" the organ. Highlights include Wally Ballou at the Jasper County Elk's Club of Newton, Ill.; "Hard Luck Stories" about a man who needs to get to Switzerland and a woman who needs to get to England; "Tippy the Wonder Dog," a radio drama spoof that features Tippy fetching lumber; "Speaking Out," a public service spoof in which a man calls to dispute certain facts; "Elmer W. Litzinger, Spy" (Goulding), who visits an island in the Mediterranean; "Dining Out with Bob and Ray," featuring Eddie's House of Iceberg Lettuce and A Little Bit of Honduras Bar and Grill, among others; and "Mr. Trace, Keener Than Most Persons" (Elliott), a radio drama spoof about the murder of Jacobus Pike. Bob and Ray then conclude the radio show by thanking Paul Taubman and Al Shaffer for their work on their programs over the years. The concert concludes with the following highlights: a soap opera spoof retrospective featuring clips of "Secret Heart of Sayville," "Mary Backstayge, Noble Wife," and "Garish Summit"; an interview with the leader of the Slow Talkers of America; Wally Ballou in Times Square; and a visit from the McBeebee Twins.
