Continued from R:8346. Part seven of this syndicated, seven-part biographical series about legendary jazz artist Miles Davis, narrated by Danny Glover. Part seven features live performances by Davis at different times throughout his career. Recorded at the Indigo Blues Club in New York City in December of 1988, the first part of the program is a performance of "In a Silent Way," "The Intruder," and "The Blues," and features Davis on the trumpet, Kenny Garrett on alto and soprano saxophones, Foley McCreary on lead bass guitar, Joey DeFranceso and Adam Holzman on keyboards, Ricky Wellman on drums, and percussionist Marilyn Mazur. Excerpts from two other performances are also featured in the first part: a live session in 1946 at the Finale Club in Los Angeles, featuring Davis on the trumpet, Charlie Parker on alto saxophone, Joe Albany on piano, Addison Farmer on bass, and Chuck Thompson on drums; and excerpts from the Newport Jazz Festival of 1958, including the song "Two Bass Hit," featuring Davis on trumpet, John Coltrane on tenor saxophone, Thelonious Monk and Bill Evans on piano, Julian "Cannonball" Adderley on alto saxophone, Paul Chambers on bass, and Jimmy Cobb on drums. The second half of the program focuses on a performance from June of 1989 at The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, California. The performers include Davis on trumpet, Jarrett on alto and soprano saxophones, McCreary on lead bass guitar, Kei Akagi and Holzman on keyboards, Wellman on drums, and percussionist Munyungo Jackson. Also featured are two other performances: "Call It Anything" from the August 1970 Isle of Wight Festival in Great Britain, with Davis on trumpet, Gary Bartz on alto saxophone, Chick Corea on piano, Jarrett on organ, Dave Holland on bass, Jack DeJohnette on drums, and percussionist Airto Moriera; and "Gemini," from a 1969 concert in Paris, France, with Davis on trumpet, Wayne Shorter on tenor saxophone, Corea on piano, Jarrett on organ, Holland on bass, and DeJohnette on drums.
