Summary

Part one of five. "The Gillette Cavalcade of Sports" features live coverage of the second game of the 1956 World Series between the New York Yankees and the Brooklyn Dodgers from Brooklyn's Ebbets Field. This broadcast opens with "The World Series Warm-Up," with Harry Wismer and Washington Senators manager Charlie Dressen, featuring a preview of the game. "The Gillette Cavalcade of Sports" opens as announcers Bob Neal and Bob Wolff describe the setting at Ebbets Field, and they note that one of the dignitaries attending the game is Adlai Stevenson, the Democratic nominee for President. In the first inning, Dodger pitcher Don Newcombe gives up a run on a single by Joe Collins. In the bottom of the inning, Yankees pitcher Don Larsen gives up a walk to Jim Gilliam, but induces Jackie Robinson to ground into a double play.
