FATHER COUGHLIN: THE JEW, THE CHRISTIAN, AND
PERSECUTION (RADIO)

Summary

One in this series of weekly "sermons" by Father Charles E. Coughlin, Pastor of The Shrine of the Little Flower at Royal Oak, Michigan, on the political and social issues of the day, usually laced with Father Coughlin's crypto-Fascist, anti-Semitic rhetoric. In this sermon, "The Jew, the Christian, and Persecution," Father Coughlin discusses persecution as a weapon of hatred and its presence in Nazi Germany. He describes Nazism as a "political defense mechanism" against "Jewish-dominated communism" and says that both communism and Nazism are persecutors. He cites publications showing Jewish support of communism and says that Nazism won't end until Jews attack communism. Coughlin discusses the religious persecution of Christians during the Spanish Civil War and says the common objective of good Jews and gentiles is to fight both communism and Nazism. The Shrine of the Little Flower Choristers sing and Coughlin reads a prayer.
