Summary
This program exposes the danger posed by racial hatred to the prestige and self-respect of the United States and to the nation's war effort. It includes a dramatization of the race riots in Detroit on June 21, 1943, in which 1800 people were arrested, 600 injured, and 35 killed. The program's creators stress the point that these riots were used by the German and Japanese press for propaganda purposes. In a postscript, 1940 Republican presidential candidate Wendell L. Wilkie emphasizes the need to protect the rights of the "Negro" and to eliminate fascism at home as well as abroad.
