BONANZA: THE HAYBURNER (TV)
Summary
One in this long-running western drama series about widower Ben Cartwright, his sons, and their adventures on their ranch in Nevada's Ponderosa. In this light-hearted episode, the allure of quick and easy money causes a series of comic misadventures. Little Joe takes a lucrative job breaking in horses for an aging horse breeder named Enos Milford, but he rapidly accumulates a prodigious amount of bruises and money. When Hoss foolishly gambles away a thoroughbred horse that he and Adam had purchased to race in the Virginia City sweepstakes, they decide to appeal to the prosperous Little Joe for a loan. After driving a hard bargain, Joe consents to lend his brothers the money. Ben gets wind of the boys' scheme to race their newly acquired thoroughbred and, tantalized by the prospect, he decides to support their endeavor. Enos also succumbs to racetrack fever and persuades Little Joe to ride against his brothers on one of the newly broken horses. As a result, only one of the two Cartwright parties prospers from the big race. Commercials deleted.
