PETULA CLARK SPECIAL {HARRY BELAFONTE} {THE GLASER
FOUNDATION FIRST AMENDMENT COLLECTION} (TV)
Summary
Petula Clark’s 1968 NBC television special with special guest star Harry Belafonte. The special opens with a montage of Clark taking strolls, playing with children, horseback riding, etc. She begins with a monologue about self-identity, launching into a continuous series of musical numbers accompanied by dancers, including arrangements of the songs "Who Am I?"; "Las Vegas"; "The 'In' Crowd"; "We Can Work it Out"; "The Other Man's Grass is Always Greener"; "Elusive Butterfly"; "Imagine"; "Come Rain or Come Shine"; and "Just Say Goodbye." She then sings her single “Color My World,” accompanied by the El Rodeo Elementary School Orchestra conducted by Gene Eaves. Belafonte arrives to sing a selection of songs, including “Hambone” and “Both Sides, Now.” Clark joins him for a duet entitled “On the Path of Glory,” which includes Clark’s controversial physical contact with Belafonte. Clark then tours the interior of the RMS Queen Mary, harbored in Long Beach, California, singing “Live for Life” from its deck. The special ends with Clark singing a selection of songs for an audience while concluding her initial thoughts about self-identity, singing “How Are Things in Glocca Morra?” from her recent film “Finian’s Rainbow” and her recent song “Have Another Dream On Me” before concluding with her iconic “Downtown.” Commercials deleted.
