Summary
The pilot film for this series of adventures based on the comic book character created by Charles Moulton.
In this program, Major Steve Trevor, who works for the United States Air Corps Intelligence Division (A.I.D.), attempts to shoot down a Nazi plane headed for a Navy Base in the United States. However, his plane collides with his enemy's and the two pilots descend to the earth in parachutes. The Nazi shoots at Steve upon his descent but Steve lands on the beach while his nemesis lands in shark-infested waters. Unbeknownst to the unconscious major, he has landed on Paradise Island, home to a population of women with great strength and intelligence who have lived there in secrecy for over one thousand years.
The women nurse the major back to health and in the process learn about World War II. When Steve is ready to leave, a tournament, much like the Olympic Games of ancient Greece, is conducted to select a woman to escort him back to the United States. The victorious young Amazon receives a unique outfit from her mother, the Queen of the Amazon women. She then takes the major in an invisible plane to the United States. The belt on her outfit enables her to keep her great strength outside of Paradise Island and a golden lasso enables her to procure the truth from others. Dubbed "Wonder Woman" by the outside world, the Amazon - later going by the name Diana Prince _ sets out to help Steve protect the United States from the Nazis. Commercials deleted.
("The New, Original Wonder Woman" ran as a series of ABC prime-time specials from 1975-1976 and as a regular series, entitled "Wonder Woman," from 1976-1977; the series continued on CBS, with format changes, as "The New Adventures of Wonder Woman" from 1977-1979.)
