DICK POWELL'S ZANE GREY THEATRE: TRAIL TO NOWHERE (TV)
Summary
One in this western anthology series hosted by Dick Powell, based on the works of Zane Grey. Powell makes introductory comments about the various ways Native Americans and white frontiersmen sought water during times of drought.
In this episode, Julie Holman, the independent wife of a wealthy rancher, finds that her husband is unwilling to share his plentiful supply of water with local ranchers whose livestock is threatened by drought. When Sid Holman suggests the ranchers pay him for the water, a rancher named Benson threatens to kill him. Julie pleas with Sid to share their good fortune, but he refuses. Shortly thereafter, Sid is shot and killed in their house by an unseen intruder who Julie assumes was Benson. When the sheriff refuses to search for the suddenly missing Benson on grounds that her husband had many enemies, Julie decides to take the law into her own hands. Joined by her husband's best friend Seth, she goes looking for Benson, who she assumes has crossed the nearby Mexican border. The trip quickly grows perilous when Julie is attacked in her hotel room in Mexico, and it becomes clear that someone wants her dead. Commercials deleted.
