DICK POWELL'S ZANE GREY THEATRE: REBEL RANGE (TV)

Summary

One in this western anthology series hosted by Dick Powell, based on the works of Zane Grey. Powell makes introductory comments about the homemaking habits of frontier women.

In this episode, war widow Stella Faring has returned home after four years to reclaim the ranch where she and her husband once lived. Stella's husband sent her to live with relatives in the city while he fought for the Confederate Army, and now, after journeying for ten days by covered wagon, she and her son have returned home to the range. Stella encounters one problem -- the abandoned ranch has been legally purchased from the federal government by a northerner named Case Taggart, who lives there and refuses to give it up. Not easily deterred, Stella moves right in with her boy and tells Case that he must leave. Matters come to a head when two old friends of Stella's late husband arrive and end up beating Case and sending him off on his horse. Case returns just in time to save Stella from the violent advances of one of the two "old friends," who appears to have designs on both the widow and the ranch. Another violent incident makes Stella realize the folly of her obsession with the ranch, and serves to change her relationship with Case. Commercials deleted.
