HAVE GUN – WILL TRAVEL: MARSHAL OF SWEETWATER (TV)

Summary

One in this series of western dramas about Paladin, a principled and cultured gun-for-hire. In this episode, Paladin visits his old friend Tom Carey, the marshal of Sweetwater, a formerly lawless town. Paladin soon discovers that Carey has brought order to Sweetwater by becoming a tyrant who bullies the townspeople into obeying the law. The marshal crosses the line, however, when he tries to run an honest tavern owner named Marie Ellis out of town because she was formerly a prostitute. During an argument with her, Carey kills a man who comes to her assistance. When Paladin confronts his friend, he invites a showdown with the only man he knows who draws a gun faster than he does.
